Flexible SD-WAN VeloCloud
flexible SD-WAN VeloCloud (formerly VM Ware) combines agility, automation, cloud integration and superior application performance. It adapts to network demands, automates operations, integrates with the cloud in all its forms, and ensures exceptional end-user experience.
While operations are performed by centers of excellence from Orange Business, a SD-WAN dashboard is provided to quickly visualize the inventory and health of the SD-WAN network.
Inventory
flexible SD-WAN VeloCloud includes 3 component types: Network, Region and Site. The SD-WAN dashboard lists them along with their administrative status and associated assets.
The Network is the highest-level element that defines the customer SD-WAN fabric and organization. It is composed of an SD-WAN Orchestrator that ensures the management and control of all the other components: Regions and Sites. It is unique for a given flexible SD-WAN VeloCloud deployment.
The Region is the element providing a set of networking functions to a group of Sites. It is typically deployed for each main geographical area of a deployment. There may be one or multiple Regions assigned to a Network per deployment. It is implemented with a pair of SD-WAN Gateways running in primary/secondary mode, instantiated in a selection of Orange Business’s Evolution Platform SuperPoPs. A Region defines regional settings applied to the group of Sites such as: the topology of the SD-WAN overlay, the way Internet traffic is routed, the way applications are prioritized and steered to underlay networks.
As an option, the SD-WAN Gateways of a Region can interconnect sites within different Regions or provide a means of communication to reach Sites where a direct overlay meshing is not possible. They also provide cloud or external networks interconnection capabilities.
The Site is the element where SD-WAN Edge devices are deployed (typically 1 or 2). It provides the connectivity to end users located on the LAN side of the equipment to the SD-WAN network. There may be one or multiple Sites per deployment and a Site is assigned to a Region.
The relationship between these components, defining the hierarchy of the inventory, is depicted in the figure below:
Inventory Hierarchy with Networks, Regions, Sites, and their components.
Network Health
Each component of flexible SD-WAN VeloCloud can be explored to get administrative, commercial, and operational information.
For the Network component, the operational state reflects the status of the orchestrator of the solution. It can be up or down.
For a Region, the operational state reflects the status of the pair of SD-WAN Gateways. It can be up (the pair of SD-WAN Gateways is all fine), degraded (the Region keeps running but at least one fault has been detected) or down (all SD-WAN Gateways are down).
For a Site, the operational state reflects the status of the SD-WAN Edge devices. It can be up (Edge devices are all fine), degraded (the Site keeps running but at least one fault has been detected) or sown (all SD-WAN Edge devices are down).
